Dialup Outage at Stigler
Around 9:00 AM this morning, we discovered customers dialing into the
967-2600 and 967-4821 dialup numbers were getting a busy signal while
trying to connect. Further investigation revealed that SBC had jumped
ahead of schedule and disconnected our Stigler circuits too early. We are
working rapidly to resolve this issue and restore service. Alternate
modem dial-up numbers for Stigler customers have been made available,
552-1001 for those
dialing into 967-2600, and 552-1002 for those dialing into 967-4821.
Estimates so far say the normal 967-2600 and 967-4821 numbers will be
restored to service within the morning.
We extended our deepest apologies for the problem, we realize this is a
period in which our customers will be very sensitive to problems and are
working hard to ensure all operates smoothly.
Update: 4:50 PM - This issue has been completely resolved and
all dialup numbers are functioning normally.

Outage at Stigler and Quinton
We experienced a power outage in Stigler on Wednesday afternoon. This
interrupted dial-up service in Stigler between 3:30pm and 4:30pm, and
dial-up service in Quinton between 3:30pm and 4:00pm. DSL service was not
impacted. Since then we have doubled the amount of battery capacity in
Stigler to help reduce the effects of any power outages in the future.

V.92 support in Stigler
As of 11:00pm, our Stigler dialups on 967-2600 now support the V.92 modem
standard. For our customers with V.92 modems, this adds the capability
for quicker connections, more efficient data transfer, and the ability to
accept phone calls while online using Modem on Hold features with a
compatible modem.

Power outage at Quinton
We are currently experiencing a power outage in Quinton that began around
12:30pm. Our battery backups lasted until 1:30pm, at which point our
Quinton dialups went down. Customers dialing into the 469-3113 number may
receive a "all circuits are busy" recording or no answer. The cause of
the outage is not known at this time, it is assumed to be caused by heavy
storms in the area last night.
Update 6:09pm Power was temporarily restored before 4pm and was
lost about half an hour later. As of 5pm, power appears to have been
restored and is stable.

McAlester DSL problems redux
Starting about 8:30am this morning, we once again started seeing problems
with a group of DSL customers experiencing severe packet loss in
McAlester. The problem seems isolated to one DSL aggregator (DSLAM) so
not all McAlester DSL customers appear to affected. SBC reports they are
having problems with an ATM switch in the CO and are working to correct
it, but no estimated time to restoral.

McAlester DSL problems
About 11:00am this morning, a group of our DSL customers in McAlester
began having severe packet loss and problems passing data. At this time
we have no indication on the size of this interruption, if it is isolated
to one DSLAM or an entire serving CO. We have opened trouble tickets with
SBC, but have no estimated time to repair.
Update 12:41pm - SBC ASI reports there is a problem with a
transport DS-3 out of McAlester that is affecting a large number of
customers. They did not have a ETR at this time.
Update 1:36pm - SBC ASI reports they are still narrowing down
where the problem exists, but no ETR.
Update 2:46pm - Service has been restored to our DSL customers.
We are still monitoring the situation for any intermittent outages.

False e-mails from management@cwis.net,staff@cwis.net caused by e-mail virus/worm
Some cwis.net customers are getting emails that appear to
be from "management@cwis.net" or "staff@cwis.net" with the following
message:
Subject: Important notify about your e-mail account.
Dear user of "Cwis.net" mailing system, Our antivirus software has
detected a large ammount of viruses outgoing from your email account, you
may use our free anti-virus tool to clean up your computer software. For
further details see the attach. Attached file protected with the password
for security reasons. Password is 51008. Best wishes, The Cwis.net team
http://www.cwis.net
They are not being sent by CWIS Internet to customers. These are
being caused by the
W32/Beagle e-mail worm. There are some slight
variations on this message, such as "your email account will be disabled
in three days". When a computer is infected with W32/Beagle, it will send
e-mails to individuals in the address book, posing as administrator
accounts at the domain name. The bogus e-mail includes an attachment
which will try to infect the receipient's computer.
Since legitimate e-mail from CWIS Internet does not use
"management@cwis.net" or "staff@cwis.net", as of 3/21 we have implemented
a global redirect for messsages from these addresses to the message center
virus quarantine.
Legitimate mass e-mail alerts from CWIS Internet will however have
proper contact information, including support telephone number, and a
corresponding message on our website.
4-Mar-04
Website redirection problem
A company that provides backup DNS service to CWIS for the cwis.net domain
name was aquired by another company who assumed control of their DNS
server. They have performed modifications to their DNS server which is
affecting DNS service for the cwis.net domain name on the Internet.
Everyone that is not on CWIS Internet's dial or DSL service may be
redirected to Voltage.net or Arkansas.net's website when attempting to go
to http://www.cwis.net/, http://webmail.cwis.net/, or other cwis.net
websites. We are in contact with Arkansas.net's network operations
personel to get the problem fixed immediately.
Update 3/4 11:44am Arkansas.net administrators have corrected
the problem.

Maintenance at Wilburton, Hartshorne Completed
Our scheduled maintenance on our Wilburton and Hartshorne networks
has been completed. Maintenance on our Hartshorne dialup number was
inadvertenly performed 14 hours ahead of schedule by SBC, taking lines
out of service at 9:00am instead of the expected midnight timeframe.
Customers dialing into 297-2541 between 9:00-10:30am were recieving a
recording on the line, and were recommended to dial into the backup number
during this time. As of 10:35am the problem was resolved and service
was restored.
23-Feb-04
Outage in Stigler
We are experiencing a problem with all of our dial-up T1s in Stigler this
morning since about 11am. Customers are able to connect for 1-2 minutes
at a time before the connection is broken. We have opened trouble
tickets with SBC on this issue and are waiting to find out what the
problem is.
Update 5:42pm - Service has stabilized around 2:30pm. SBC
reports an inter-central office OC-12 was having problems that affected
our circuits. They report they have been moved to an alternate path and
making permanent repairs tonight.

Sporatic outage, service upgrade in Sallisaw
Thursday morning, we began seeing sporatic service outages for our
Sallisaw dialup customers. The problem was tracked down to a faulty ethernet
switch at our Sallisaw location and was replaced early in the afternoon. We
also took this time to perform a transit upgrade to our Sallisaw dialup POP,
increasing the capacity which should address slowness and latency problems.
17-Jul-2003
DSL outage due to upgrade
In response to a security advisory issued by our router vender, Cisco Systems,
on Wednesday, we began upgrading to new router software into production today.
At 5:15pm Thursday, an error that caused an upgrade to fail interrupted service
to our DSL customers. By 8:30pm, the problem was solved and service was
returned to normal.
