Uploading Your Personal Website With WS_FTP

Full and lightweight trial versions of WS_FTP can be downloaded from Tucows or ipswitch.com.

1.
Start WS_FTP, usually by clicking Start
    selecting Programs, and selecting WS_FTP.
2.

Each time you start WS_FTP, you will be brought to the Session Properties window. To add your personal web page space to the list, click the New button, and enter the following information.

Profile Name: My cwis.net personal web page
Host Name/Address: www.cwis.net
Host Type: Automatic Detect
User ID Your CWIS Internet username
Password Your CWIS Internet password

3. At the top of the Session Properties screen, click the Startup tab.
4. For "Initial Remote Host Directory", type in: public_html
5.

Click Ok.

From now on, when you start WS_FTP to upload new files or maintain your web site, you can select "My cwis.net personal web page" from the list.

6. The maiin WS_FTP screen is split into two sections. The left section shows directories on your computer's hard drive. The right section shows directories in your web space on the web server.
7. On the left section, select the folder in which your web page files are stored on your computer.
8.

To upload (copy from your computer to the server) a file,
click on each file on the left side you want to upload, then click the right arrow button on the screen to upload. Do this for each folder and directory you want to upload.

To download (copy from the server to your computer) a file,
click on each file on the right side you want to download, then click the left arrow button on the screen to download. Do this for each folder and directory you want to download.

To delete or rename a file on the server, right-click on the folder/file on the right side, and select either delete or rename.

9.

Once you have uploaded your web pages, they are instantly available on the web.

To verify your page(s) are uploaded, try to access them using your web browser. For instance, if your page is named "holidays.html", then go to the URL: http://username.home.cwis.net/holidays.html and see if you get your page.

If you can't access your page, make sure you have uploaded it to the public_html directory. Also, filenames are case sensitive, meaning that if your file is named HOLIDAY.html you must use the same capitalization in your URLs.
